Afternoon in the Box
This afternoon, I spent a few minutes in the new Alex Box Stadium watching the LSU Baseball team practice. It was a beautiful day and my grandparents were in town enjoying the free venue. Besides the incredible skill of the team, I was totally shocked by just how absolutely beautiful the stadium is—it’s terribly breathtaking. Because of the fine venue, LSU is hosting the regional tournament and, if they make it, probably the super-regionals (it’s still the best in the super-region). I want to congratulate the architects and the Athletic Foundation on such a superb job building a stadium. I wish I had been there for opening day.
In other news, Chad Jones, who also plays football for LSU, hit a ball way out of the stadium that went as high as the light posts—wow!
Also, these practices are free and open to the public. It’s a great family-friendly outing and on great days like today it’s a real treat.

Just a heads up. While the beautiful stadium figures into it a little in terms of sub-regional hosting, Super Regional hosting is handled by way of actual tourney seeding. We won’t host it based solely on that gorgeous park. We’ll host it because we’re damn good and the number 3 seed in the whole country!
And that same Chad Jones will see time on the mound this weekend, as he has for a few weekends now. Guy’s got a wicked slider.
Thanks for that—I’m not really a baseball fan (just LSU), so I really wouldn’t know. That’s just what I had heard—clearly misheard—around campus.
That’s good to hear. He’s a fantastic athlete.
