Reader Survey

Reported by Logan Leger on Mon, May 11th, 2009 — 2 comments

Recently, we asked our readers to tell us their favorite radio station in Baton Rouge and their operating system of choice. We recently closed this survey and have computed the results.

KLSU is the dominant radio station amongst our readers with an incredible 67% voting for it as their favorite. No other radio station had a clear plurality; the remaining six radio stations add up in lesser quantities to the remaining 33%. The notable anomalies in this poll are the curious absence of the major Clear Channel radio stations in our area (e.g. 102.5) and the major rock stations (e.g. 104.1 and 104.5). I think this is because our demographic is younger generations who have ties to LSU. The other notable exception in our poll is the presence of Sirius satellite radio. I’d imagine that in a city with so many radio station choices there would be no satellite radios appearing in this poll—clearly I was mistaken. I’m not sure what the meaning of this is in our poll—take it for what it’s worth.

Operating System

Much like KLSU in the radio poll, our readers are largely Mac users. I attribute this to, again, the younger generation of our readers, with whom the Mac is more popular, and the high prevalence of web developers and other creative occupations who frequent our site.

This, of course, is a highly unscientific poll. The margin of error is +/- 1%. I’m not even sure if this could be used to extrapolate the predelictions of the larger Baton Rouge area. For example, it’s clear that the most popular radio station in Baton Rouge isn’t KLSU, although amongst LSU students this most certainly could be the case. Moreover, the plurality of Windows users leds me to believe that this applies to Baton Rouge as well. However, I think this is useful for anyone considering advertising on our blog. (And speaking of which, we have some available sponsorships.)

Two Questions for our Readers

Reported by Logan Leger on Tue, Apr 21st, 2009 — 10 comments

I’m interested in getting to know a little more about our readers. A few weeks ago I posted “What’s Your Favorite Baton Rouge Radio Station?” in which I asked you to submit your favorite radio station. We’ve gotten a few responses so far, but not really enough to extrapolate anything useful from. So, we’ll keep this question open some more.

We also have another question: are you a Mac or a PC? With Apple now branching into the Louisiana market with a store in New Orleans and in Baton Rouge and with the war raging on more intensely than ever, I think it’d be interesting to know. I have a feeling that we have more Mac users here (I can tell from our analytics that this is so), but we might be surprised.

We’ll keep the polls open for one week. Check back here after a week for commentary on the results. As always, you can submit your vote via Twitter by sending us a reply @btrblog or tagging your tweet with hastag #btrblog, sending us an email or dropping us a comment. Help spread the word by using the share links at the bottom of this post.

What’s Your Favorite Baton Rouge Radio Station?

Reported by Logan Leger on Wed, Apr 08th, 2009 — one comment

We’re conducting a survey to determine the most popular radio station in Baton Rouge. To vote, simply send a Tweet with the four-letter call sign (e.g. WABC or KABC) appended with the hastag #btrblog (e.g. “WABC #btrblog”). You can also submit a comment here. Alternatively, just send us an email at the tip line.

We’ll compile the results at the end of the week and publish the results. This isn’t for anything in particular; we’re just really curious.
